Every time the bell rings....
What's done is Donne. All we (and by we I mean I) can do is try to diminish the future evil we find that is to become where we can and honor the memory of the innocent lost of the evil past.
Otherwise "I'm so sorry" in the present becomes meaningless words. It is the only positive way I know how to answer at the distance that separates us, the first question that must always follow news like this. "What help does your family, her family, and you need?"
The second question is; "How can we (I ) help?"
In the present I grieve not only that she died at the hands of an evildoer, but that she suffered, and that her anonymous murderer was such a monster that he killed her bright promise and stained so many other lives with his anonymous hate.
It would be easy to wish the evil reflected back upon some other nameless stranger as a result of your justified grief, but that is what the monster wanted. He wanted to spread his hate.outward to extend his darkness. .
Let there be light instead.
